Latch Bio is an innovative company driven to meet researchers’ needs with ready-to-run solutions to advance their research in gene editing. The Latch Bio team seeks out the best tools to provide on their platform to help researchers get their science done quickly and efficiently. “With the public launch of the Latch platform, we have officially begun our campaign to build and disseminate the data infrastructure for the biocomputing revolution,” said Kenny Workman, co-founder and Chief Technology Officer.”

Early on Latch Bio chose the Gene Editing Institute’s DECODR as one of the tools on the platform. “The ChristianaCare Gene Editing Institute has been at the forefront of innovation in advancing the use of gene editing to support improved human health,” said Pawel Bialk, M.S., principal investigator at the Gene Editing Institute. “Access to the right tools is essential to success in the field. The Latch platform will provide immediate access to a wide range of popular CRISPR workflows that will further accelerate our discovery and translational research programs.”

Salem

Students at Salem Academy in Winston Salem, North Carolina experienced access to CRISPR in a BoxTM, GEI’s educational resource that inspires interest in gene editing. Salem Academy, exclusive to girls in grades 9-12, became the first school in North Carolina to offer the workshop as it pivots its academic focus to a STEAM academy.

“Our partnership with ChristianaCare and the Gene Editing Institute will create new and innovative possibilities for our aspiring women scientists to learn cutting edge science and explore a future career in biotechnology, science, and medicine,” said Dr. Summer McGee, president of Salem Academy and College. “This unique experience is exactly what sets Salem Academy apart as a national leader in building the next generation of women leaders in STEAM.”

The Gene Editing Institute’s Gene Editing 360TM, a package of tools and videos to support teachers in high schools and colleges, came to fruition in partnership with the Delaware Technical Community College and is being distributed by Carolina Biologics. The development of CRISPR in a Box began with a grant from the National Science Foundation, and since then is in classrooms across the country engaging and inspiring the next generation of gene editing leaders.
