Salma’s research interests are in discovering and elucidating novel mechanisms and properties of gene repair for use in CRISPR/Cas research.  As a member of the Discovery Group, Salma uncovers new avenues for innovation at the Gene Editing Institute, with a special focus on purifying and characterizing new Cas proteins.  Salma joined the Gene Editing Institute as a Staff Scientist after experiencing the CRISPR in a Box kit as a student at Delaware Technical Community College.  She earned her B.S. in Biotechnology and Biological Sciences from the University of Delaware in 2020, and has previously worked at the Delaware Public Health Laboratory, where she used Next-Generation Sequencing to identify COVID-19 variants.
